Philadelphia’s Looser play hook-heavy rock that blends ‘90s slacker rock with ‘70s and ‘80s new wave-tinged power pop. Drawing as much from the Breeders and Pavement as they do from the Cars and the Go-Gos, the band blends chugging guitars, punchy choruses, and sparkling vocal harmonies, with lyrics that explore loneliness, isolation, and miscommunication in an age that promised infinite connection.
Following a string of singles and EPs, The band released their debut LP Lonely Century in October 2025 via Mint400 Records and Musical Fanzine.
After a string of home-recorded singles and the 2023 split Bugs and Stuff, Looser went bigger with Lonely Century. The album digs deeper into their brand of heavy power pop with buzzing synths, layered harmonies, crashing guitars, and choruses built to stick. It opens with the reflective “Empty” before shifting gears into the official first single, “Lonely Century Boy,” a pummeling anthem that sets the tone for the record. By the time the sludge-rock closer “See U Around” fades out, the band has run through a whirlwind of moods and sounds without losing focus.
Produced by frontperson Tony Aquilino and drummer Zac Ciancaglini, the sessions began with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs) at Uniform Recording before the band moved into their own space. Ciancaglini and guitarist Gabe Wilhelm engineered, with Ciancaglini mixing and Zeigler mastering. Looser—formed in 2018 as Aquilino’s home project and now a full lineup with Ciancaglini, Wilhelm, Russell Langley (bass), S. Catoe (synths/cello), and Megan Gouda (vocals)—have shared stages across Philly and New York with Puppy Angst, Honey Radar, and Leathered.
